Asked to reinvent the typical Chicago two flat, students were given an array of precedents to choose from, analyze and redesign.
I found myself with a type of two flat that addressed some concerns that the "backyard space" of a two flat were under utilized because of its location and connection the typical building. This design aims to bring that wasted backyard space to be interconnected with the formal design of the two flat. The courtyard space is central to the design of the building, as it encourages communication and socialization between the two apartments.
